Maria Rannanheimo: It all starts with listening
Asbestos Art Space
Opening: Tue 16 June 2026, 5 pm onwards
Open: Wed–Thu 17–18 June 2026, 12–5 pm
Welcome to the opening and to an exhibition of photographic works, as we attune ourselves to the longest days of summer. You are invited to stop by for a moment, linger awhile, move through the space in imaginative ways, speak a few lines, reflect quietly alone or together, propose something, or just simply be.
---
One must get to focus
to listen to the light
rippling
subtle signals
even when it’s dark
there are traces everywhere
wavy
breathing
expanding particles,
thoroughly seeing resemblances
the vibrating dimensions
of tentative forms
condensed collective memory
multidimensional subconscious
another kind of logic
a frequency opening
in the sense of time
and through times and species
I want to move through the world
with my receptors open
to remember densely
together
and thoroughly
that we are not separate
we are connected
and connection resides within us
like light and warmth
and neurotransmitters
as temporal condensations of existence
as phases of a continuum
if we remember to listen
we can see
and when we look
we can feel,
reach towards one another
to transmit and to be transmitted
in perpetual permeability
Maria Rannanheimo lives in Helsinki and works primarily with photography and moving image. Intuition and magical-realistic documentary practice are integral to their artistic approach. Their work explores diverse possibilities of being and existence in an era of planetary destruction; overlaps, tensions, and connections that unfold both within fleeting moments and across temporal scales.
