We live in a time of addictions and hunting for quick rewards. Or have they always been a part of being human?
The idea of addiction fits perfectly in the Western culture and its economic system, which requires constant creation and satisfaction of new desires.
Chasing a quick reward prevents meaningfulness (which is more like a permanent state instead of a quick feeling).
Juulia Jurvanen (born 1981) is a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Social Services from Helsinki. She is interested in mental health issues and social phenomena. Currently, she is particularly interested in human desires and addictions, the brain's pleasure system and dopamine seeking.
