In "Myrsky Klovharunilla," artists Pola Laamanen and Anna Poleteli unite their unique practices, drawing parallels to the poignant relationship between Tove Jansson and her lover Tuulikki, who once found solace on a remote island, watching the world unfold through the windows of their cabin. Much like Jansson and Tuulikki, who turned the storm into a moment of introspection and creativity, Laamanen and Poleteli invite us into their world, where the boundary between interior and exterior, calm and chaos, is blurred.

Pola Laamanen presents intricate still-life compositions, meticulously hand-embroidered within wooden vintage window frames. Her work echoes the quietude and intimacy of Jansson’s sheltered retreat, capturing moments of stillness and beauty of Finnish home as if seen through a window on a stormy day. Each piece is a window into a serene world, where the details of everyday life are lovingly preserved in thread, offering viewers a sense of peace and reflection.

In contrast, Anna Poleteli’s storm-inspired installations and video art embody the wild, untamed energy of the natural world. Her installations evoke the power and unpredictability of the storm, with turbulent forms and dynamic visuals that engulf the viewer, immersing them in the very heart of the tempest. Through her video art, Poleteli extends this experience, using the screen as a window into the storm’s relentless force and the moments of calm that follow.

Together, Laamanen and Poleteli create a dialogue between the quiet and the tempestuous, the internal and the external. Like Jansson and Tuulikki, who observed the storm from the safety of their shelter, these artists use their mediums to explore the tension between protection and exposure, intimacy and vastness. As we move through the exhibition, we are invited to engage with these contrasting experiences—peering through Laamanen’s windows into stillness, then confronting the raw power of Poleteli’s storm.

"Myrsky Klovharunilla" is not just an exhibition but an invitation to see the world through the eyes of two artists who, like Jansson and Tuulikki, find beauty and meaning in both the calm and the storm.
