The midsummer sun glares brazenly in through the window. Summers are always filled with the perception of loneliness and detachment. I am irked by the fallacious beauty everywhere. The relentlessness of summer hounds me to paint autumn and dirt as if for shelter. The hotter it gets, the deeper into November the shades in my paintings shift.
I often work to an advanced stage only to wipe it all off. I fumble for colours and compositions like for words in a foreign language that I cannot quite catch on my tongue, or that I recall wrong. Seasons work according to their own laws in my head and conjure atlases of places that I have imagined as my refuge. In September twilight descends for the first time after summer, and the world no longer feels so uncontrolled. The yard of an abandoned holiday village is littered with plastic meat crates, a shoe and glass. As the almanac turns into October, Arcturus of Boötes ascends on the darkening sky.
