27.8.-1.9. Jerker Ramberg: Season of Sadness

Open: Wed-Sat: 12–4 PM, Sun: 12–3 PM

OPENING Tue 27th Aug. 5-8 PM

Jerker Ramberg´s exhibition Season of Sadness is the second installment of his three part exhibition project called Pop Nostalgia DELUXE. In this exhibition Ramberg dwells with the themes of consumerism and poverty, more precisely the melancholic and bittersweet nature of them. The exhibition handles Ramberg´s own childhood memories from the 90´s recession leading the nostalgic haze towards contemporary times. Distortion of time and it´s meaning are a center focus in this exhibition. Does a child remember only toys and games amidst the depression ? Can anything new ever be born while fantazising the past ? Sadness and it´s manifestation in mundane life-especially in this moment-is awareness of the difficultiness to survive in the capitalistic discipline culture. The season of sadness isn´t just the aknowledgement of distorted memories, but also tremendous wistfulness. To leave with bittersweetness those playful fantasies to be able to see forward. For Ramberg this act of letting go comes with laughter. Humour eases the pain in his art.

Jerker Ramberg (b.1989) graduated as Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tampere University of Applied Sciences in 2016 and is currently studying comparative literature and creative writing in Turku University. He´s born in Helsinki, but lives and works ini Turku. His works usually combine multiple mediums from writing to photography. Ramberg´s art reflects images of popular culture and the nordic melancholia, which he interwine always with a political undertone.
