A gentle whisper tells that it’s actually pretty cool to be a horse girl.
As a child one might write a letter dedicated to their adult self. Afterwards it might feel more important that you could do it the other way around: to write the letter as an adult, and send it to your childhood self. Or if not a letter, a message of empathy, that everything is ok, nothing is as embarrassing as you think, and everything will turn out fine.
FOR THE LOVE OF GIRLS is Vainio’s wistful homage to the beautiful, horrible childhood. Momentary fleeting memories cover the walls with angels on shiny stickers.
Anna-Karoliina Vainio (b. 1995, Sipoo) uses soft materials and traditional techniques in her work which mostly consist of ryas and tapestries. The artworks, which are bursting with yarn, are safe havens and utopias -- universes filled with tranquility and peace. The caring atmosphere translates from artwork to artwork.
Vainios works are contemporary art, but at the same time an extension of a long lasting handcraft tradition. The conscious historical and feministic issues are present in the themes of the artworks.
