Meri Hietala: Casting the birds (suom. Tiirailu)
I paint at night, dark stillness as my forest blanket. Sitting, breathing and listening with the body as ears, the deep rhythms. Conscious awareness ponders roots, mother earth, parenthood, lineages, menopause, fertility, cycles, cosmograms, infinity, kinship and energies. Dancing in state of trance, crying singing and channeling. Within this version of an act of living while painting, dot by dot, I travel beyond to the dream time. Greeting familiar entities, dear flora and fauna spirits, revisiting premonitions, bathing in tides, licking the minerals of alchemy and exploring the abundance of universes. Meditation in timeless eternal love. There is no a new story, all the stories are versions of the same one collective story, Love.
In this exhibition I want to share a selection of paintings, sessions, pulses, my versions of the one story during the years 2016-19.
Materials that I find appealing to learn within, are directly from the essence and actions of my life. Materials: Moon blood, linen, turmeric, ash, mushrooms, coffee, beer, pee, wine and carbon black, achillea millefolium (suom. siankärsämö), feathers.
