Dual Painting 2.-3.11.2019

Dual Painting

Sat 2.11.2019 from 14-20

Sun 3.11.2019 from 12-18

Aino Säävälä / Emmu Johansson / Helka Heinonen / Miina Puolitaival

Anyone could have painted these paintings. We have been working on a method where we lost our own artist identity. With the paintings we created a space where we try to create the illusion that the viewer could have made the paintings. An equal way to look at art is to wipe out the excessive demand for understanding between the viewer and the work. Only recycled materials have been used as bases in the works.

The paintings have been completed in more than six months. We painted in the room in silence or as occasional sounds such as playing drills carried into the space. We had not decided on the number of paintings at the beginning. During the painting breaks, we started writing a stream of thoughts to open channels to words. The paintings act as a bridge between verbal and visual experience. The project expanded by asking others to write based on our paintings. No one has seen each other’s texts before they were completed. Aino Säävälä and Emmu Johansson are behind the paintings and all members of the working group are involved in the project as writers. Dual Painting is a test of the connection between collective consciousness, painting and poetry. The exhibition features co-paintings and poems written on the basis of them.

Heta Bilaletdin and Teemu Hietaniemi as a solo. Hard to describe either in advance. I think there are surprises in store. Two visionary mergers of experimental muse and noise rock and machines. These have something in common, although the performances may be completely different. Arctic vhs; banana candy cat biting.

New performance "Vive Les Hommes" from Sanna Maija Hakkarainen and Unni-Hilla Nectarine. The performance is based on a “Kikkelikortti” scandal that took place in Finnish politics in 1990. Details of the scandal here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolevin_veljekset
