About the space, the door is only 70 cm wide and there's a 15 cm treshold from
the street, so the space is unfortunately not very accessible.
In Hakala's colourful collage pieces characters cut out from women's magazines have gone through metamorphosis and drift through their own realms.
Taina Hakala is a Helsinki based artist working on collage, comics and painting.
So, I should write some decent art speech about these collage pieces. Even though I deeply wish people could see the pieces with their own eyes and enjoy their own experience and thoughts about the pieces. Instead of that I try to put art of images into words!
But if you want to know anyway...
Some of the themes I've been thinking while working on these collage pieces:
*one's need to be seen *freedom, adventures, independence *desire, lust and acceptance *one's own will vs. accepted behavior, boundaries and punishments *one's need to belong to the pack, even if it means turning down oneself *logic in advertisement - How often ads are meant to guide your thoughts to either sex or feeling safe. --------------------------- Practical info: the space is quite small, so please let's be patient and chill, give each others some space and if needed check the exhibition in turns. During the vernissage and the zine launching party I'll set a couple of tables and benches on the street so we can also hang out there.
