Kaksi mummoa meni mustikkaan – toinen ei mahtunut is an installation where classical music meets the sounds of the forest. As the viewer enters the space, they step into the blueberry field, the forest. In the space, there is a representative blueberry patch where the viewer can rest and listen to, among other things, the DNA of the blueberry. The fluffy blueberry patch breathes and hums, and the feeling lingers in the viewer’s body. The installation is accompanied by

an educational material set that focuses on perception and how, for example, the intense act of picking blueberries changes the way we look and perceive. The work is suitable for a wide audience, and its theme provides a unifying experience for families, from grandchildren to grandparents.
The work has been created in collaboration with the Performing Arts Collective Kaukasus, Mikkeli Art Museum, and Mikkeli City Orchestra. The work is complemented by a separate performance featuring Mikkeli-born dancer Maija Viipuri. The performance is a moving journey into the blueberry field and the beyond. The movement material echoes the blueberry forest, the ease and difficulty of being in the blueberry patch, grandmothers, and decay. The sound material of the performance will be heard in a sequence guided by a code, in an unknown order. The movement material also gives the audience space to freely observe and associate with the experience of being around blueberries.
The work will be on display 26.–30.3.2025.
