1.-2.11. Mari Sydänmaanlakka: IN PROGRESS/Kesken

Opening hours:

Tuesday 1.11. klo 14-19 Wednesday 2.11. 13-22

I have around million works, left unfinished, waiting to be finished. They haunt me through the closet and my laptop at my studio. Texts, movies, videos, ideas. I am thinking why do we have this goal or idea of everything to be finished becouse then the work would stop living. Why aren't we not allowed to show unfinished work? On the other hand the finished art work lives in those who experience it.

I hang my unfinished works, being present, meeting people, telling about my life, drinking coffee, listening, writing, living. There might emerge feeling that I continue some of my works or finish one. A visitor can also continue some of the works with me physically. Being exhibited by my works, by myself and by visitors forms a living art work, collective performance. Most of all I want to discuss the idea of incompleteness with others visiting the space. After all (and thankfully) we are all incomplete until death and yet here we are, exhibiting ourselves, living our lives. This is a personal art project that affects on everyone, not just the art work itself.

Remembering Ukraine during this situation. I am doing an immersive performance called "Safety/Turva". I share business cards with the words "Safety" or "Turva". This is something I have been doing since 2015 in Tampere while immigration policy was on frame in unpleasent way.

Come with me!
